What the deck does not mention is who built that market.
The same industry that engineered infinite scroll, variable reward loops, algorithmic amplification of outrage, and social comparison at global scale is now pivoting to sell you the fix. The arsonist has taken up firefighting. And the fire is enormous.
Let's Name What Actually Happened
This isn't a conspiracy. It's documented engineering. The core mechanics of every major social platform were designed, iterated, and optimized for one metric: time on screen. The people building these systems knew exactly what they were doing.
Former insiders have said it plainly. In 2017, a founding president of Facebook told an audience that the platform exploited a vulnerability in human psychology — specifically our need for social validation — and that the creators understood this consciously. This should at minimum give you pause.
The Problem with Tech-Mediated Healing
The mental health app market is not all cynical. Many people building in this space are doing so in good faith, and some of the tools are genuinely useful.
